Quote: Heavy is the head that wears the crown. Heavy is the head that wears the crown. Black dog drinks from the water trying to cool his tongue. Like the king, finds no peace, his work is never done. Night falls, smoke on the water, darkness closes in, cold, white hand in the deep will drown you for your sins. It's a lifelong expedition, second-guessing your decisions, trying to find out what's been missing, and the pages keep on fillin'! Crying out, oh, go and wake the king! Call to arms for those who kiss the ring! Stand your ground! The walls are comin' down! It's do or die, do or die! Heavy is the head that wears the crown. Heavy is the head that wears the crown. Mad man, blood on the altar, the queen will have his head. His ghost will shake those rattling chains long after he's dead. No soul, knows he is trouble high upon his throne. Loved by few and judged by many, he bears that weight alone. It's a lifelong expedition, second-guessing your decisions, trying to find out what's been missing and pages keep on fillin'! Crying out, oh, go and wake the king! Call to arms for those who kiss the ring! Stand your ground! The walls are coming down! It's do or die, do or die! Heavy is the head that wears the crown. Heavy is the head that wears the crown.

Hate wasn't something people let go of easy and, while he was certain that held true in his case, hence the reason for the attempt at disguise, it had still been nice to see the kingdom recover. The situation with the displaced and why they were showing up remained unsolved, but, on the whole, they hadn't harmed the kingdom. Not yet, at any rate. It was certainly still a far cry away from having to face the threat of the approaching Darkness, trying to ready a kingdom for something it couldn't possibly imagine.

But Logan needed out of the castle. It was nice to be rid of the weight of ruling, but that didn't mean he had nothing to attend to in Bowerstone. With no need to constantly surround himself with the rich and snobby though, locking himself up in the castle for too long served only to make him feel too confined.

He did have the sense to avoid roaming too far just yet. Some sense of duty still clung to him and told him that he should stay relatively close in case he was needed, that way it wouldn't take forever and a decade to get back. Mending bridges with the public was going to be no easy feat and it was one he wasn't sure he would ever pull off, but he had at least worked on the one with his sister. They weren't perfect and they hadn't always seen eye to eye (partly on his own fault, true; he still considered that he maybe should have told his sister, told more people than just Briar; he could've had help then, but, alas, there was no sense in dwelling on what was come and gone and couldn't be changed), but Stella was still his sister and he wanted to be there for her if he was needed. He owed her at least that for her decision to spare his life when it probably would have been easier to take it, especially when such a decision had garnered much support.

Long story short, he was in Mourningwood, dressed simply with a hood pulled up over his head to better guard his face on his travels despite the growing darkness that now hung overhead. The cursed plague of the Legion offered the perfect spot for a little bit of practice and entertainment. He wasn't about to let his skills go rusty that easily, after all, and he had been sure to take with him an ample supply to keep him going throughout the night. And, of course, he had forewarned Briar of where he would be, just so his absence wouldn't raise any alarms with anyone. He was pretty sure there were plenty of people that wouldn't mind if he got carried off by Hobbes or torn up by some Balverines, after all.

He didn't have long to wait before the night had fully settled in and the first groups of Hollow Men started to appear about the Fort. "Hello there, bonesy," he muttered, readying himself with his sword raised as the group drew closer. The Hollow Man was the first to take a swipe and Logan dodged out of the way. "Don't mind if I do." He struck out next, the metal of the blade striking cleanly against bone. Quickly, the prince had the creature downed.

It'd be almost too easy if there weren't that many of them though. He was looking for a challenge, not a lake walk. If he'd wanted that, he would've gone to Millfields.

notes: he is dressed like this. he basically intends to hack away at hollow men for a bit of entertainment so he doesn't lose his mind with all the annoying royalty things, so anyone's free to join him. xD

It'd been on his mind for a while now, he was sure of it, but what with "social norms" and a bit of nervousness, perhaps, he had avoided ever telling her how he felt in exact words.

He was thinking of Briar, of course. The ball had been organized and Logan had decided that he was going to go, damn the consequences, but it wasn't even just that that the prince had set his mind to. He intended to ask Briar to go with him - as a partner, not just as... whatever someone might reduce it to since she was technically supposed to be his aide and nothing more.

She probably wasn't supposed to have known as much as she did about his struggles that he'd had while he was on the throne of Albion, but when the entire kingdom had been against him, he'd had very few places to turn where people would even be accepting of him, let alone be someone he felt he could trust, so he'd turned to her. He'd always turned to her, as a matter of fact... After Stella had basically lost faith in him and the whole pressure of the invasion...

It was nice to have someone he could consider a friend - a true one, not just some strange alliance he had made like he had when he'd handed control of Industrial over to Reaver.

Ruling over Albion with the threat of the Darkness that was coming to the kingdom weighing on his shoulders had certainly been far from his finest hours, but it had been no lie when he'd said that having all of the power wasn't something he missed. Being royalty was painfully overrated. Power was not all that it seemed to be, but, then again, that was a lot of things in life, wasn't it?

Soon enough, he found himself at her chamber door, taking in a bit of a deep breath quietly and briefly biting on the inside of his lower lip as he raised his hand and knocked his knuckles lightly against the door, "Briar? he inquired softly, but still loud enough to be heard, of course. He'd figured here was as good a place as any to come asking for her.

He considered briefly what reaction he might get out of her when he asked her. Damn the consequences. There was that thought again. The heart would want what it would want, would it not?

"Do you have a minute? There's... There's something I wanted to ask you about." He found his teeth sinking softly into his lower lip, his eyes focused a bit downwards, but still attentive to the door, waiting for it to open.

He should have probably thought about what he'd do if she declined, but he really hadn't. He'd sort of figured on crossing that bridge when he got there, if that was, indeed, how this went. There was still time to get ready, of course... It wouldn't have been right to put his proposal off to the very last minute, but it had still taken him a bit of time to pluck up the courage to actually do it.

But he'd thought quite a bit about it lately. He hadn't figured out just when he had started having... Oh, let's call it affections for her as more than a friend, but... He did and it was just about time he actually did something about it, it seemed.

In his first years as ruler, he led fairly and was considered a just ruler, managing that and continuing Albion's Industrial Revolution all at once.

But that kind of rule didn't last forever. After an expedition with several of his men to Aurora, Logan found out about the darkness and the Crawler. Him and his men ended up in a fight with the creature, and Logan's men were quickly killed. With the help of Kalin, the new leader of the city of Aurora, he survived the encounter himself. To thank her, he promised to protect Aurora from the darkness, which had been a greatly overpowering enemy to them that had destroyed much of Aurora and its people. When he returned to Albion, he came back changed, and began to lead very differently. It was the time that he became a tyrant.

Encountering the blind seer Theresa upon his return to Albion, Logan learned that the darkness would come to attack Albion in just five years. In desperation to keep the kingdom from being entirely wiped out, Logan began ruling harshly. In order to raise money to fund an army to fight the coming threat, he raised taxes stiffly, shut down education systems, and ended up handing control of the economy over to Reaver, which resulted in extremely poor conditions for workers, as child labor became common and poor wages were employed in order to keep costs down and profits up.

The protests against his rule were quite evident, and his younger sister Stella and Walter confronted him about his decision to have his guard shoot the protesters, who had gathered close to the castle. Despite their protests against the act, he moves forward, even forcing the decision on whom to execute on Stella by making her choose between Elliot, a close friend of Stella's, and the leaders of the riot. When she made her final decision, he took her threat to never forgive him for what he's done coolly and told her, "Good. Then you'll never forget it."

After that conflict, his younger sister went about gathering followers to lead a revolution against him, and, when she and Walter later return to the castle after the fighting of the revolution, he surrenders to them without protest. When he is later put on trial for what he had done as king by his sister, who had become the Queen, he explains to her that he acted as he did because of what Theresa had told him and tells her of the coming darkness that will wipe out the kingdom and anything else in its path if it wasn't taken care of and confronted. For this, he is spared by his sister, and he expresses that he is grateful for the choice and is happy to be off the throne and leaving the fate of Albion in what he believes to be the now very-capable hands of his sister.

 the roleplayer
Alias: McKenzie

RP Sample: Logan frowned slightly at her words about the people of Albion. It was rather true, in all honesty. "I don't know if I'd use selfish, but for the lack of a better term to describe their need for everything to be sunshine, rainbows and no more problems, I guess we must," he told her, looking over his shoulder at her with a small half-smile. "Because all of us in this castle do understand that the only right choice in the mind of the people is to make them happy and keep them alive, and we all know that that's no easy task."

That brought him up to the matter of his sister and he sighed softly as he listened to Briar, leaning heavily against the wall by the window as he did. "In the great scheme of things, no, it's no better," he admitted, letting her have that much. "But at least she's not facing unrest in the streets on top of the debt. That's one thing that's in her favor. How she'll pay off to Reaver is a whole other problem." With that, he frowned slightly. "Quite frankly, it's the one thing I hated about being ruler and don't miss at all," he said, looking back up and over at Briar, "I don't miss having to make all the hard decisions between running the kingdom into the ground either financially or population wise. That paired with the trip to Aurora and I find myself lucky to have been able to stay on my feet as long as I did."

That's when he paused to sigh softly, taking a few moments to gaze out at the dusted kingdom before turning back to face Briar. "Please," he said finally, "don't apologize. I can see both sides, after all. They have reason to be upset with me, and I understand that you have reason to be upset with my sister." He walked over to her, carefully resting an understanding hand on her shoulder. After a brief moment of hesitation, he offered her a slight smile. "I'll do my best to talk with her, although I have my doubts on if she'll even allow me to speak with her or hear me like I want her to. And promise me something," he told her, "Promise me you won't hold it against her, no matter what she says of me. I've done my best to move on, and I won't say that anyone has made it easy for me, because they haven't, but that doesn't mean we have to give up. The kingdom has had it's second chance." He paused to offer her another small smile. "I think it's about time some of us give ourselves a second chance. I know I need to, and I think you might need to as well. Just promise me that you won't turn your back on it when it might be the thing you're looking for."

ty sophia
[/dohtml]
